I love sleeping. Love. Although, I have always for as long as I can remember slept awful-- meaning I can't fall asleep, can't stay asleep, or don't sleep soundly. I want to sleep, its just I can't turn my mind off. I try, I really do, but its a hard task for someone who has spent their whole life conditioning their mind to immediately turn on as soon as it hits the pillow. My husband on the other hand can sleep. He has no problem shutting his mind down and falling into a deep sleep the second he hits the pillow. I've always been jealous of just how easy it is for him. Not only does he sleep well, he snores. A lot. So, as someone trying their best to fall asleep, his snoring also doesn't help!
While I was pregnant with our second daughter my quality of sleep was beginning to get even more sketchy. I was getting bigger and so was the pillow fort I had amassed around me. Towards the end was when I discovered Young Living. When I bought the Premium Starter Kit there were a lot of options included that I thought would be obvious sleep aids. Lavender of course is the oil most commonly associated with healthy sleep. I started diffusing it in my room and it did seem to help put me to sleep. Next, I tried a combination of the oil blends Stress Away and Peace and Calming. I would smell them directly from the bottle as well as rub a drop on my big toes. These oils were amazing. I could literally feel a release of tension in my body as I laid down for bed. I was seriously hooked on these two oils.
One day when I was on Pinterest I stumbled upon a pin about Valor. It said that it helped to aid snoring. Awesome! I put it on my husbands big toes that very night. This was my first and only oil FAIL!! Not only did he snore, he snored louder and slept deeper than ever! I couldn't even nudge him out of his sleep coma. Never again would my husband use Valor! It did however give me the idea that I should be using it on myself for sleep! That night I gave it a whirl, and wow! It was the best sleep I've ever got. I continued to use it nightly through the end of my pregancy. It's the only reason I got restful sleep when I was otherwise extremely uncomfortable.
The bad news is: Valor is out of stock. :(
I went back to using Stress Away and Peace and Calming, but soon thought I would try something not in the Premium Starter Kit, Cedar Wood. I ordered it because not only is it a great price point of only $11.25 a bottle (wholesale), it has this amazing earthy, woodsy smell. I'm now enjoying using Cedar Wood more than all the others I had tried before.
It took a little time, but I finally found an oil that helps me fall asleep, stay asleep, and sleep soundly. Now, if I can only get my newborn to sleep through the entire night, but that's another blog!
